Growth in ID theft complaints to the FTC, 1999-2003

I came across a report from the FTC identity theft clearinghouse that shows ID theft growth over the last few years, or at least the growth in the complaints to the FTC. In 2000, there were 31,117 complaints to the FTC. In 2003, there were 210,000 (projected). The FTC site for identity theft has a lot of information. Unfortunately, much of it is in PDF, so its hard to link to or use other than just downloading and reading the document. The consumer side is pretty well fleshed out, but the section giving businesses information about ID theft is very weak. Just a few papers on Nigerian and Phishing scams.
